Gloria is part of the Lúmina series, in which Rosana Larraz explores light as a central element of painting. The work uses color gradations and glazes to create depth and a sense of spatial expansion without recognizable figures.
The use of light and color references the tradition of illusionistic Baroque, particularly frescoes such as The Triumph of the Name of Jesus by Giovanni Battista Gaulli in the Church of Gesù, Rome, where lighting and perspective create a sense of openness and continuity. However, Larraz strips these forms of their strictly religious meaning, reinterpreting their luminous power as a structural principle and as a form of broader spiritual experience.
The title, Gloria (Glory), retains its association with brightness and splendor, evoking presence, exaltation, and transcendence, but without being confined to a traditional religious context. The painting combines this symbolic dimension with a contemporary treatment of light and space, offering a visual experience that is simultaneously formal, luminous, and open to multiple spiritual interpretations.
