Biography
Born in Zaragoza and now based in Málaga, Rosana Larraz is a visual artist whose work explores light, atmosphere, and memory. Her paintings move between abstraction and expressionism.
For Rosana, painting is a deeply physical and material process. Working primarily with acrylics and mixed media, she often paints directly with her hands. Far from being accidental or spontaneous, her work is meticulously planned; color, gesture, and texture do not dictate the piece, but are instead deliberate tools used to shape a carefully structured composition.
Her artistic practice has grown through a continuous dialogue between painting, art history, and lived experience. She studied Art History before pursuing postgraduate studies in Applied Linguistics and building a career in intercultural communication. Years of living and working in different cultural environments, engaging with multiple languages, and traveling extensively broadened her perspective, deepening her interest in the ways images can connect people across cultures and time.
Living in Basel, Switzerland, marked a turning point in her journey. Surrounded by one of Europe’s most vibrant artistic communities, she made the decision to devote herself fully to painting. In 2023, she established her studio in Málaga, where she lives and works today. Alongside her academic and professional career, she pursued a rigorous studio training that instilled a lasting respect for the craft, discipline, and material practice of painting.
Today, Rosana is dedicated entirely to her artistic practice while developing selected projects that bring together artists, ideas, and audiences through carefully conceived exhibitions and cultural initiatives. Her work has been exhibited in Spain and internationally, is held in private collections in several countries, and has received recognition in national and international contemporary art competitions.
