Homenaje (Tribute) is part of Rosana Larraz’s exploration of light, atmosphere, and emotional presence through gestural, tactile painting. The work emphasizes movement, energy, and the trace of the gesture over figurative representation, transforming each mark into an act of emotion and memory.
The piece engages in a dialogue with art history: from the Abstract Expressionism of Willem de Kooning and Jackson Pollock, which liberated gesture as an emotional language, to the lyrical abstraction of Nicolas de Staël, where light and color construct atmospheres rich in sensory intensity. It also evokes the European Informalism and artists like Antoni Tàpies, who explored the surface as a space of presence and emotional experience. Within this historical framework, Larraz redefines painting as a bodily and sensory act, condensing a brief yet intense moment—an impulse that comes alive in the viewer’s perception.
