The work focuses on the creation of a specific atmosphere, in which light becomes the central source of both visual and structural tension. Rather than depicting a recognizable place or a defined scene, the painting offers an open visual experience—a space for contemplation and reflection.

The composition is organized around a luminous focal point at its center. The image is constructed through the vibration of color and the contrast between areas of darkness and light, creating an internal dynamic that sustains the painting’s intensity. Along the lower and lateral edges, ambiguous forms emerge, suggesting bodies in motion—figures that appear to move or reach toward the light.

The title Towards the Light refers both to the movement within the painting and to the artist’s approach to painting itself. It may be understood as a journey, an attraction, or a sense of direction, without imposing a single, fixed interpretation. Larraz’s practice is grounded in a contemporary language, moving between abstraction and expressionism.

At the same time, the work engages in dialogue with the tradition of European painting, particularly the Baroque and Mannerist periods. Rosana Larraz draws inspiration from the way these masters employed light, space, and the contrast between the earthly and the spiritual. This influence is not approached through imitation, but through a process of learning and reinterpretation, with careful attention to atmosphere, color, and rhythm.

The painting does not seek to tell a story. Instead, it aims to create a space for looking and imagining—a place of attention and stillness, where the work can radiate intensity and where each viewer is invited to explore and discover a personal experience.
